Young Partners in Development

A number of people suggested that it would be helfpul to open up a discussion on the tool for measuring child partcipation that I shared at Whistler. I would be very interested in any thoughts/ideas people have for strengthening the tool, opportunities for piloting it, suggestions for how ot take it forward.

I am attaching the ppt I presented in the workshop as well as a version of the tool amended following our disucssions there

Dear Gerie, thanks a lot to start this interesting and full of opportunities discussion!
As we talked at the CRED PRO meeting, in the frame of the significant work shop of the IICR in Wistler, here in Bogotá we have a very good place to be able to pilot the tools you propose.
I agree we need to strengthen the iniciative in order to support the evidence of children participation is indispensable and sustainable. With the group of South Cone and Colombia Inniciative for Children Rigths and the support of CROD PRO and the IICCR we can put in practice the indicators that we be able to develop (we start some work on it in a Chris workshop during the activities in Wistler). The thing is to create evidence. In the same way I think we need to develop advocacy tools focused in Desition/Policy makers and social actors to reach sooner the social value of children participation. I liked a lot when you propose the adults as facilitators and children controlling process.
Warm regards! María Lucía
it would be wondeful it you can pilot the tool. Do you have the resources to translate the mterial into Spanish? let me know if i can do anything to help. I can send you some practical activities I have used in workshops on child participation to help introduce the issue, if that would be useful. cheers, gerison
Sure, I can do it with my team, I think it can be part of the projet with all of you, isn´t it? And of course the activities of your workshop can be very helpful.

Do you mean to translate the material you already send? Or do you have another one to translate?

best regards, María lucía
no I meant the revised measurement tool i posted on this site. The other materials I mentioned are practical activities that can be used to help people understand the concept of participation and consider its application in their work. xx
Ah!! perfect, yes I can do it, of course!
Hello Gerison, Thank you for sharing the tool - looks very interesting & helpful. I have shared it with colleagues in Belarus, Georgia & Russia just today - asking them to provide their thoughts. I'll share any feedback received and also if they are interested in piloting.
Maria Lucia - hope to see you in January in Bogota!
Hello Kim, I hope you had very good time during this time, and in the coming year you can consolidate dreams and projects!

of course we are going to meet in Bogotá in a month!, we are working on it with Alejandro Acosta and Camilo.

Warm regards, MArìa Lucía
Attached to this reply is the revised document that Gerison is referring to. It is in a word 97 format just in case.

I am so happy to see this discussion about collaborating that I wrote about it in a new post that I just added to the site here. This is a great example of how sharing and contributing to each others work can take place and make a real difference. Bravo!
I invite you to take a look at a school that measures high in child participation:
